Polar Plunge Kennebunk – New Years Day Annual Charity Event – January 13, 2018 – 11am
This year’s 17th Annual Atlantic Plunge – Freezin’ For A Reason will actually take place on Saturday January 13, 2018, 11am Gooch’s Beach Kennebunk. This chilly Polar Plunge event is typically held New Year’s Day, Jan 1, but due to an astronomical high tide predicted for New Year’s Day 2018, never mind the crazy cold temps, the event has been move to the following weekend. Register for this refreshing swim, registration fee is $25.
What better way to ring in the New Year than a chilly swim in the Atlantic?! It’s called the Polar Plunge held every year at the first of the year. Brave souls don their bathing suits, hit the beach, and dip into the ocean at Gooch’s Beach in Kennebunk Maine (aka Kennebunk Beach). They call it Freezin’ for a Reason, because the proceeds from each swimmer’s fundraising go to Caring Unlimited. Polar Plunge participants must raise and donate $25 or more to dip. The top fundraiser is rewarded with a $250 LL Bean gift certificate.
The Polar Plunge is a brisk way to kick off your New Year, and it’s a feel good while you’re freezing event. It’s also a sure cure for a hangover if you partied to heartily on New Year’s Eve. Jan 1, 2017, the outdoor temperature was a moderate 45-degrees Fahrenheit, with a slight breeze but sunshine on the beach as dozens of swimmers ran in and out of the water.
Kennebunk Beach’s Annual Polar Plunge is at Gooch’s Beach at 11am, it will be the 17th’s anniversary for this frigid fun fundraiser. So mark your calendars and gather your cold courage now. Caring Unlimited offers local support to York County Maine families who have experienced abuse.
