Kennebunk/Kennebunkport Top Beaches:
The Kennebunks are blessed with miles of beautiful beaches, from soft sand to rocky shores, seashell beaches and tide pools, to Kennebunks’ dog friendly beaches.
Parsons Beach – Arguably Kennebunk’s finest beach, certainly the most scenic. Pristine, undeveloped, with limited parking, there is additional parking down Brown Street. Parsons Beach residents that live here may not want you to hear about their beach, so please be respectful when visiting, carry in and out your trash, don’t walk on the dunes or private property, be peaceful as you walk the beach by the homes on the southern end. On the northern end, The Mousam River flows into the Atlantic, with strong currents and big tide changes. Its a very cool convergence where the river meets the sea- literally. Parsons Beach area is an extremely scenic setting. See Parson Beach location and parking
Kennebunk Beach – is also loving called Mothers’ B
each. This short sandy section of perfect sand beach is well protected, with a good amount of parkin on Beach Ave. A very family friendly beach – hence the name Mother’s. Its also where the “mothers” hang out while their kids are at Kennebunk Beach Improvement Association summer camps next door. At low tide, there are plentiful tidal pools for ocean creature exploration! Mother’s Beach has a Playground. No facilities or Lifeguard on duty.
Gooch’s Beach– This largest stretch of Kennebunk Beach, along Beach Avenue, has talcum powder sand, and some hard packed sand following high tide. Often referred to as “Kennebunk Beach” its popular for walking out to the Breakwater, and for surfing when the waves are breaking just right off Narragansett Point. Not much sand for beach chairs or sun-bathing at high tide. Dogs on leash are allowed early morning and evening, see Kennebunk’s beach dog policy which change seasonally. Dog owners must clean up after their pets, there are Gooch’s Pooches Beach volunteers that stroll the beach to educate people as to the policies and protocol. Parking Passport App or a local sticker is required to park along the beach boardwalk – available at Town Hall or the Chamber. There is no snack bar. Portable toilets are available. Lifeguards are on duty in season.
Middle Beach – This rocky section of Kennebunk Beach between Mother’s and Gooch’s has pretty grey and black stones, not so much sand. Its an artists’ inspiration. The beach boardwalk sidewalk is a great walk from Gooch’s near the Breakwater all the way to Mother’s Beach. Sticker or Passport Parking App required where posted.
Colony Beach – At the mouth of the Kennebunk River lies this 150-foot beach on the Kennebunkport side of the river. This beach offers refreshing swimming in the cold Atlantic as the water gets deep fast, beware of dramatic tides and currents. Bring your beach chair, its a fun spot to watch the boats come and go out of the Breakwater. Very limited parking. No lifeguard on duty.
Cleaves Cove Beach – This secluded and scenic beach off Ocean Avenue Kennebunkport is semi-private. Respect private property, observe signage, and don’t trespass on homes in this neighborhood, and don’t park in any way that impedes the neighborhood. No parking. No facilities. No lifeguards.
Goose Rocks Beach – This beautiful 3-mile stretch northeast of Cape Porpoise has very soft sand, great for walking. Scenic with views of the bay and Timber Island, which you can visit at low tide. Please do not walk on the dune grass, stay to the beach access paths. Bring chairs to enjoy this magical Maine setting. Parking sticker required from Memorial Day weekend – Labor Day between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, available at GRB General Store. Seasonal stickers are available at Town Hall. Consider arriving by trolley access. See Goose Rocks Beach dog policy. No facilities or lifeguard. Cocktails and dining at Tides Beach Club across the street. More on Goose Rocks Beach
