Kennebunkport has a classy, upscale reputation, a vacation destination for Presidents, celebs like Taylor Swift and Patrick Dempsey, famous chefs – Gordon Ramsey and Rachel Ray.
But at its heart, K’port is a fishing village of humble happy lobstermen, aspiring artists and lovable locals. The same juxtaposition exists for overnight lodging in this charming seaside village – Kennebunkport has luxe high end hotels and spa resorts, and more modest Maine inns, bnbs and motels. And remember, strolling the beach is always free!
But if you are seeking an affordable resort, Rhumb Line Resort has great rates, starting as low as $99 a night. While the rooms are nothing fancy, they up to date and clean and you enjoy full use of an indoor pool and hot tub, plus an outdoor pool, hot tub and Admiral’s Table patio style restaurant in season. Yes, they serve fresh Maine lobster prepared many ways, affordable cocktails, kids fare too and the best “Fresh Fries” in Kennebunkport. Daily breakfast is also included in Rhumb Line’s reasonable rates, and kids 16 & under stay FREE with their parents.
If you prefer to be on the water, The Nonantum Resort has a great location, with an outdoor pool right on the Kennebunk River, you can walk to town and Kennebunkport’s Dock Square or to a nearby beach. Nonantum’s rates are in the $250-400+ range but the setting, fun family activities, and welcome atmosphere is worth it. If you book your lodging at Nonantum direct, a wonderful full hot buffet breakfast is included in your stay. A great way to start your day before walking out Ocean Avenue to Walkers Point or Dock Square, or taking Nonantum’s convenient shuttle to town or the beach.
You can also get on board a charter boat cruise from Nonantum Resort – a great way to see the River, the Ocean and learn how lobsters are caught – aboard the Rugosa – a great scenic lobster boat tour – great value at $35 adults, $25 for kids. You can also board the Pineapple Ketch for a scenic sail, or charter a fishing trip with Libreti Rose.
If you simply must be on the beach, The Seaside Inn is THE Place, and the price is right for this oceanfront location with private Kennebunk Beach access. What’s cool about Seaside, besides its amazing location, is its history of 9 generations of innkeepers dating back to 1660 and a King’s Grant. Seaside’s homemade breakfast, included in your room rate, served in the 1850 Boathouse is special too. Room rates at the Seaside start at $129 off season and only get as high as $399 peak season for the best ocean view in town!
The best deals in Kennebunk and Kennebunkport are of course the off season, also named “shoulder season” – May or early June are less expensive than peak summer with the lowest rates from late October to late April (with the exception of the nationally recognized Christmas Prelude when the town is very busy). During Kennebunkport’s off-season, package values and well-priced rooms are the norm. Consider calling the innkeeper or hotel desk to request the best rate, book direct and have the opportunity to pick the best room for your stay. You may be able to upgrade your room, or get a special rate on your 2nd or 3rd night stay.
Be “shore” to visit Kennebunkport soon, it’s a famous town with a friendly happy atmosphere all year-round. In addition to some good lodging deals, there are exceptional happy hour and dining specials throughout the spring, summer, winter and fall… cheers!
