Kennebunk Harvest Fest haunted by Zombies?!
Fall in the Kennebunks is typically a festive time – beautiful foliage and fun events abound for locals and visitor alike. Harvest Fest October 11 is the culmination of all things fall in the Kennebunks… a Farmer’s Market selling local produce, pumpkins and mums, a pancake breakfast at Duffy’s, a scarecrow scavenger hunt, craft fair and costume parade on Main Street downtown Kennebunk, live music, pumpkin decorating, and this year – the much- anticipated dedication of the new Waterhouse Center. Imagine all this fall fun being haunted by a Zombie Walk down Main Street Kennebunk?!
What’s a Zombie Walk in Kennebunk you ask? Zombie Walks are a freaky phenomenon that first caught on in Toronto in 2003, now a worldwide wicked trend, drawing thousands to the creepy call – and its all for a good cause, despite its grim appearance. To participate in Kennebunk’s first annual Zombie Walk, “Undead for the Unfed” simply dress up like the walking dead, a zombie, and gather at the new Waterhouse Center at 5pm for a scary photo shoot, then at 6 the Zombies will proceed to parade down Main Street en masse. Zombies should bring non-perishable food goods as a donation for Community Outreach Service Food Pantry. Items can be donated for pets to benefit the Animal Welfare Society of Kennebunk.
After the zombie shuffle and shamble, everyone is invited back to the Waterhouse Center for a free movie showing of “Pirates of the Caribbean, The Black Pearl”…arrgg. This is an inaugural event at the new Waterhouse Center in downtown Kennebunk, a new public gathering place for events, activities and winter ice skating. The Waterhouse Dedication ceremony takes place Saturday October 11 at 12:30.
If you have driven through downtown Kennebunk this week, surely you have noted the scads of silly, scary scarecrows… local merchants are having fun with this year’s Harvest Fest, and will offer specials sales, treats and a welcome place for Harvest Fest.
So get your zombie on, get to downtown Kennebunk this Saturday and frolic in the fall festivities of Harvest Fest.
