No one is more excited about The Kennebunkport Festival than me. The Kport Fest encompasses everything I love: food, wine, art, music, friends old and new, fantastic seaside scenery, fashion and my favorite town of KPT. The 2018 Kennebunkport Festival was a resounding success, re-invented, organized by locals for locals – which I love…
Top 10 Reasons I love #KportFest
#1 Kennebunkport Festival is the kick off to summer – it’s the first big party of the season for this serious party town by the sea. It’s not just one event – it’s a weeklong series June 4 – 10 of eating, drinking, dancing, admiring art, and taking in the splendor of this oceanfront community. Even better, it benefits local Kennebunk charities! The 14th annual fest raised over $80,000 for local charities.
#2 Party Every Day – sounds like a song right?! There truly is at least one fun venue each evening during Kennebunkport Festival, and often several. As some say of the Festival, it’s a marathon not a sprint. Cocktail Parties set the tone, at fantastic venues like The Burleigh at Kennebunkport Inn. All the fun people of this toney town turn out to sip cocktails, sample small plates, and celebrate our good fortunate to be here. Cheers!
#3 Kennebunkport’s most beautiful homes are open to a few fortune guests as part of The Art of Dining. These are intimate dinners at extravagant homes, and wait it gets better… Maine’s top Chefs make dinner. Picture yourself enjoying a multi-course culinary adventure with new friends, and familiar faces. Conversation flows with the wine, it’s a fine time. Tickets to these private dinners are “dear” as my mum would say (code for pricey ), but she also told me the best things in life are NOT free. But all the proceeds go to a local charity!
#4 Maine’s Best Chefs put their finest plates forward for the Fest. Chefs from Kennebunk and Kennebunkport’s best restaurants, and Portland’s top restaurants too, cook up a spectacular show for each cocktail shindig, dinner and gala event. One of the best values is the Grand Tasting on Sunday at noon, at the also-grand Colony Hotel, where you can sample all the local Chefs’ best plates, tapas style, while you sip and savor the incredible ocean view from this century old hotel. Monday night’s kick off Spark – a Pig Roast at Stripers on the River at Breakwater Inn, new for 2018, was a fun festival party starter, with tickets just $45, 5-7pm.
#5 Maine’s Best Artists showcase their work on the waterfront – where much of it is inspired. What better backdrop for beautiful watercolors, impressionism, giclee, and pop art than Kennebunkport beautiful waterfront resorts, homes and restaurants! The Maine Art Block Party on Friday featured a 10 gallery event with New Orleans style music and creole cuisine in an open house open air party atmosphere.
#6 It’s yachty. Get on board fantastic yachts, old and new, sipping drinks on the docks at Kennebunkport marinas, The Pilot House, The Boathouse Bar and the Spirit of Massachusetts – all bedecked during the fest, so be sure to walk the plank and hoist a drink on Kennebunkport’s floating bar.
#7 Maine Music On The Green – a fun family-friendly day time concert on The River Green in front of the Captain Lord Mansion is the most fun, affordable, casual and completely outdoor venue. Saturday afternoon, for just $20 bucks, enjoy a jammin’ lineup of great Maine bands on the stage like Spencer Albee and The Mallett Brothers. Food trucks and a beer tent line the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust River Green for sips and snacks.
#8 Just dance! Dance parties are often the highlight of the fest. Thursday’s party has Maine Spirit, in the past held under a big tent by the Pilot House. This year Old Vines hosted an Oasis Party with copious food and wine, a live band and DJ too – all one ticket with fundraising going to local COS! Fun!
#9 Fashions at the Festival. I love to see the fashions that parade around the Port during Festival. From preppy to formal, hipster to haberdashery, people turn out and turn up their wardrobes for the weeklong festivities, with the Grand Finale -Taste of the Kennebunks at The Colony being perhaps the fanciest, Sunday afternoon 12-4!
#10 Ramp up to Launch. The Kennebunkport Festival is June 4-10 but the next weekend is Launch – Kennebunks Maritime Festival ! A highlight is the River Light Boats Parade on Saturday June 16 at 9pm.
I love this town. #LoveKPT …party on Kennebunkport….
