It’s easy to focus on the fear and the news cycle fodder. You can bum out that about Kennebunks’ beach rules. You can protest, pout, or you can order #takeout! Our dine out – outside at Kennebunkport Restaurants as of June 1. I hope we all appreciate our beautiful beaches and favorite businesses even more these days.
Let’s try to see all the wonderful things occurring, non-profits and businesses rallying to offer new services to locals and yes – to seasonal residents that have returned to their second homes as refuge (may these out-of-staters PLEASE stay quarantined and request local deliveries so as not to “go out” and expose the rest of us).
It’s easy to love Kennebunkport. It’s stunningly beautiful, a small town with big spirit! It’s loved by locals and visitors alike.
Beyond our natural beauty and outdoor abundance, it’s the people of Kennebunk and Kennebunkport that make it truly special. This is not just proximate towns sharing a few zip codes, it’s one community.
Here are some community highlights, resourceful business owners spreading happiness and cheer, striving to keep their establishments alive! Restaurants in Kennebunk and Kennebunkport are offering take out and re-opening for outdoor dining June 1, by reservation. Hotels, Inns & Bnbs can open to Mainers on June 1, out-of-staters July 1 with new restrictions.
Batson River Brewing & Distilling made hand sanitizer in their distillery – called “Use Me” … funny! Batson River has “Pick Me Up” wood-fired pizza prepped on their patio to-go, and 4 pack cans of their own beer to go. We love their slogan: “Come pick up a pie, and say hi (from 6′ away)”!
Alisson’s is offering take out, order online then grab and go your order in
Dock Square. As of June 1 Alisson’s outdoor dining overlooks the water. We have often said Alisson’s is the “Cheers” of Kennebunkport… so cheers to #takeout and dining al fresco on the water!
Boathouse Waterfront has take out daily, lunch and dinner – plus outdoor dining on their big deck. We love the views and delicious Boathouse food!
Old Vines is offering outdoor dining on their patio and tent, with up of some faves plus mixers, cocktails, beer and wines, daily 4-8pm, call 207-967-2310. Also “Virtual Happy Hour” features your favorite bartenders – the perfect martini by Charley, Mexican margaritas with Sam. Call it a quarantini!
Stripers is offering take out offers take out Wed-Saturday 5-8pm. Outdoor drinks and dining in those Adirondack chairs on the river too! Also Breakwater gift cards are available with a bonus 25% added!
Hurricane has takeout Wed- Saturday 4-8pm including beer and wine and family-style meals, and outdoor dining by the water by reservation.
Cafe Rosa is open for curbside take out, this new French inspired place in Kport is in the previous Bandaloop space.
Pilot House has curbside take out and car hop service 3-8pm including drinks, delicious daily $13 specials, rum punch buckets and margs. Outdoor dining coming soon.
Pedros is open for curbside take out Thursday – Sunday 4-8pm with margaritas to go too!
Dannah is taking online custom orders, pick up at their Ocean Ave location. Store opens June 1.
Minka is opening in June, and offering online orders at 20% off their cool made-in-Maine products. You can order flowers as well. Fun story, Minka has been delivering pop-up plants around town just as a sign of hope and love.
are selling lobsters to take home at great rates – so you can have your own “stay
at home lobster bake”! They’ll even cook ‘em for you!
The Kennebunkport Festival have wisely postponed their June events, for the health and safety of all, but hope to create unique events to roll out in late summer or fall, since many local non-profits benefit greatly from this amazing charitable festival, now in year 16, celebrating our communities’ vibrant food and wine, art and music scene. Did you know this festival raised nearly a quarter million in the last two years that went straight to 15 local non-profits?!
Our local libraries are bringing books to life with “live Storytime online” from Graves and “Storytime Live from Kennebunk Free Library along with e-books via their electronic library – check out their Facebook pages for details! BTW, overdue book fines are extended through April 15, phew! The compound interest is intense – lol!
Exercise classes are being broadcast live from numerous fitness facilities, and our local Parks and Rec. No excuse not to stay fit and stay book-ish, literally, during self-quarantine.
There are countless other happy helpful stories and efforts in Kennebunk and Kennebunkport, Cape Porpoise and Arundel, like COS – now staged at Vinegar hill Music Theatre as a drop off and pick up donation center. So stay positive, see the strength and resilience – all the good in our neighborhood, be kind, be grateful, be tolerant. And please social distance and stay home to stop the spread.
The Kennebunks’ – courageous and connected since 1820…. Yes this is our bicentennial this year! Bicentennial celebrations have been rescheduled for Aug 22. Memorial Day parade, Launch and July 4th fireworks are cancelled for 2020.
