Progressive Wining & Dining in Kennebunkport
Here’s a fun twist on the Kennebunkport dining scene. An evening of wining and dining – a progressive dinner party on wheels, enjoying delicious stops at Kennebunk and Kennebunkport’s top restaurants. You have a D.D. and your companions are folks from here and away during a 4-hour culinary tour.
Our Progressive Dinner evening started at The Nonantum Resort where we met our new foodie friends over a glass of Champagne before boarding our private trolley.
First stop was Jillyanna’s Woodfired Cooking School where Chef Jill met us at her woodsy home, with lush gardens and a stone patio surrounding her signature outdoor wood-fired pizza oven. Inside her cozy kitchen, she treated us to three crostini made with fresh toppings from her herb garden. Next we tasted cool but spicy Lobster Gazpacho, while Jill described the secret ingredients she utilized. She talked about her cooking school classes offered here in her Kennebunkport home, which are BYOB. Note: you can bring a bottle of wine to share here.
Our next treat was Old Vines Wine Bar in Kennebunk. Owners Rick and Jon greeted us with a lavish spread of antipasto and chacuterie, plus selections from their tapas style menu including roasted chicken meatballs and delicious baked Turkish Feta. These hearty artisanal hors d’oeuvres were complemented by wine and hand-crafted cocktails from the beautiful wooden bar. Old Vines convivial atmosphere and cocktails got the trolley guests mingling and posing for food photos.
Bandaloop was our next dining destination, our driver delivered us right to the doorstep like VIPs. Here we enjoyed Chef Scott’s beautifully presented entrée of sesame encrusted Cusk – a delightful local fish, served alongside sushi rice and a colorful vegetable slaw. A crisp organic Vino Verde was the wine pairing, or Peaks Organic Ale for those preferring beer.
Our concluding course was back at The Nonantum on a private porch set just for us. Here Pastry Chef Barbara demonstrated the art of chocolate truffle making – and we had the opportunity to roll up our sleeves and roll our own confections. We enjoyed these rich hand-made truffles with a glass of Merlot or espresso. Then it was time to say goodbye to our new progressive foodie friends, till we meet again.
